Yinka Shonibare – Dysfunctional Family
October 15, 2006
Yinka Shonibare comes across as a multi-talented artist with works ranging from photography, painting and sculpturing. His works usually touch on controversial subjects such as race and class. Besides many of his photography works, something that really caught my eye is his creation of 4 figures known as the ‘Dysfunctional Family’ done in 1999. From what looks like the latest setup out of a toy enthusiast’s collection, Shonibare uses this medium to incorporate themes of status, alienation and multiculturalism. What impresses me the most is the material used on these figures. More of his works can be seen at http://www.yinka-shonibare.co.uk/.
