José Parla’s “Cityscapes” Exhibition
December 2, 2006

José Parla is holding an exhibition of a series of his latest works under the title “Cityscapes” at Art Basel Miami Beach. The exhibition, which is presented by Spoonfed, will be open from December 6th to the 10th. Parla’s works address the idea of how urban cities are palimpsests and that many individuals who pass by throughout the years leave behind their mark that is inscribed in writing but worn out. José Parla recreates this in his works as he uses construction materials such as cement, wood, and vinyl, as well as those of traditional art like paper, paint, powdered dye, wax and ink. So, for those of you in Miami while the exhibition is taking place, I highly encourage you to take a look at the works of this talented artist.

Adidas Materials of the World – ZX500 England
December 2, 2006

Just came across this from Sneakers BR via Hypebeast. The England inspired patented leather and pinstripe material of the ZX500 sneaker. I thought the previous releases were really hot already, but this definately tops it. Being a huge fan of pinstripes, I hope they will release a couple of clothing items for this theme as well.

Curse of the Golden Flower
December 2, 2006

A much anticipated movie from Zhang Yimou, who created Hero and House of Flying Daggers, Curse of the Golden Flower is an epic film that displays a deep plot and heavy artistic elements. By far this film is Yimou’s most expensive productions with a total cost of $45 million dollars; which makes it China’s most expensive film production to date. Throughout the trailer, Yimou’s style of colour co-ordinating scenes and massive epic battles can be easily seen. ‘The plot concerns the volatile balance of power between the King (Chow Yun Fat) and the Queen (Gong Li) and his three sons, which entails betrayal, deceit and passion, pitting King against Queen and father against sons.’ Set to open in New York and Los Angeles on Dec 22nd, the film has already been released to for critics with mixed reviews. Although grande and epic, many feel the film lacks substantial martial arts action and the story is too much focused on drama. Regardless the trailer is a must see and it readily compares to Frank Miller’s film 300.
