Dewar’s Repeal Day
December 4, 2006
Relating to our name Speakeasy, here’s an interesting site honouring the repeal of prohibition created by Dewar’s, famous for their blended Scotch Whisky. On December 5th, 1933, the United States of America celebrated the ratification of the 21st Amendment to the U.S Constitution, repealing Prohibition. The site includes a PDF of the original New York Times article that appeared on December 5th, 1933, and a commercial of what life’s like without alcohol produced by Dewar’s. So check out the site if you’re genuinely interested in a history lesson or just want to be amused by an out of the ordinary marketing ploy. Oh, and if anyone from Dewar’s is reading this, please send some drinks our way so we can celebrate with you.

Antas V8 GT
December 4, 2006

Say hello to the new Antas V8 GT. Created by Italians, Faralli & Mazzanti, the Antas V8 GT is truly unique. Not only is it entirely hand-crafted, the idea and prototype of this super-car was not even developed with any technology whatsoever. Just a couple of heads working together and a wild imagination led to this beautiful specimen of a vehicle. The Antas V8 derives directly from the Italian grand touring cars of the 1960’s and evokes what its creators call the golden era of Italian car design (1930-1960).
This 310 HP, 5-gear automobile accelerates frfrom 0-100 km/h in a timed 5 seconds and although many current vechicles can out-speed this car (a Ferrari Enzo just in case you’re wondering), the Antas V8 certainly wins my vote by its sheer look, design and terrific craftsmanship. No information as of yet when this automobile is available or its cost but I’m assuming it’s probably out of my reach. No harm in dreaming though.

Adidas Y-3 Fall/Winter 2006
December 4, 2006
Check out the Adidas Y-3 site for their Fall/Winter 2006 2007 collection. The site is done really well in Flash and is nicely laid out with footwear, clothing and accessories for the season. Once again, their collection is simplistic and fresh, surpassing my highest expectations of them.

10 Items or Less – Online Release
December 4, 2006

The new movie 10 Items or Less starring Morgan Freeman, will be available online in broadband two weeks after it opens in theaters on December 1st. And no, it will not be online due to piracy. Freeman’s production company, Revelations Entertainment is working with computer processor giant Intel to sell the movie online and it will be available through ClickStar. This is by far one of the most unique and daring approaches that I have seen a company take to market a movie. I’m quite curious to see how this will turn out. More info on the movie here.
