Adidas Mi Innovation Center

October 31, 2006

adidas-mi.JPG
BKRW has a nice article and a few pics of the Adidas Mi Innovation Center at the newAdidas Sport Performance Store in Paris. It seems as though Adidas is following the footsteps of Nike ID for customizing shoes, but only Adidas is taking it a step further with the customization for performance also rather than just aesthetically. They even have a machine where you run on a video carpet to analyze your actions. Visit BKRW for the review or Adidas for more info.

Beck and Michel Gondry team up again to create this bizarre and surreal video “Cellphone’s Dead” off of Beck’s latest album “The Information”. Beck and Gondry worked together for his video “Deadweight” (which is one of my favorite music videos of all time. Click here to view) which was so inventive and imaginative in terms of story telling and visual effects. The “Cellphone’s Dead” video is no different.  For any inspiring artists or film makers, Gondry’s work is essential viewing in my opinion. This is definitely worth checking out from one of the most creative directors out in the industry.

Elite Bar – Shanghai

October 29, 2006

elitebar.JPG

While in Shanghai over the summer, I came across a new bar that was to open in the New Factories area called Elite Bar. The New Factories district is a new and upcoming development where trendy bars and restaurants will be built. The establishment of Elite Bar has been commissioned by none other than the renouned Elite Model Management, which has helped build the names of icons such as Cindy Crawford, Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks. Photosynth

October 28, 2006

Don’t be fooled by the man in the beginning of the video. I know, it’s funny because he looks exactly like a long-haired Michael Imperioli (Christopher from “The Sopranos”). But this is serious shit. Very intriguing work coming out of the Microsoft Live Labs. Photosynth allows users to walk through virtual/3D worlds via a photo database. Surprised it’s coming out of Microsoft of all places. No word yet on whether it will become an application or whether it will be available for open-source. I would love a program like this to manage the hundreds of hundreds of photos I take of one thing. For photographers or people in New Media (whatever that is..HA), this is something you should definitely check out. A lot of potential in this project.

Panoramicity

Incredible panoramic photos (not panoramas) from Michele Lugaresi. A portfolio of several cities such as Tokyo, Paris and Barcelona.

Sticking to the vintage and retro theme, here’s some cool info I came across via High Snobiety. Soon to open is a full-service traditional barbershop in the LoHo area of Manhattan for the modern gentleman by the people at Frank151. This barbershop will be decorated with barber chairs from the 1930’s and other furnishings from that era. Frank’s Chop Shop looks to create a luxurious experience where people with similar interests and tastes can get together and socialize. Read the High Snobiety piece here.

Smokin’ Aces – When a Las Vegas performer-turned-snitch named Buddy Israel (Piven)decides to turn state’s evidence and testify against the mob, it seems that a whole lot of people would like to make sure he’s no longer breathing. – [IMDB]

This is the fastest movie preview I’ve ever seen. I ain’t lying. In this 1 minute teaser for Joe Carnahan’s latest movie, Smokin’ Aces, I don’t think I had enough time to comp-rend everything in the clip because its extremely fast paced. Next thing you know its over. I believe I saw Jeremy Piven (AKA Ari Gold from Entourage), Ryan Reynolds, Ray Liotta, Andy Garcia, Ben Affleck…ah..Alicia Keys and Common all in the same movie? If all goes well, Joe Carnahan (which directed Narc) can bring the diverse cast and make what looks to be a really good action movie. Based on the teaser, it looks pretty damn cool if you ask me. It looks like something Guy Richie would direct. Hopefuly, it won’t turn out like “Revolver”.

Damon Albarn is back. No…not with another Gorillaz album or bringing back Blur out of its hiatus, but with a new band. Along with Albarn, the newly formed group reunited him with his Gorillaz producer, Danger Mouse and his Gorillaz guitarist, Simon Tong. In addition to the 3 Gorillaz members, The Clash’s bassist Paul Simonon and Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen round out the rest of the ensemble.

Their first single off “The Good, The Bad and The Queen” album is “Herculean”. After listening to the single via their website, it’s really something I didn’t expect from Damon Albarn. You can definitely tell Albarn has matured as an artist. I expected a more radio friendly song for its first single but I’m not taking anything away from “Herculean”. It’s still a solid song. Regardless, you might want to check this out. You’ll be sure to hear about this group in 2007. With Danger Mouse and Damon Albarn together again, you can’t really go wrong with them.

Herculean, the first single from the album The Good, The Bad and The Queen will be released on October 30, 2006 on CD and deleted the same day, it will also be available on download.

The artwork for this limited edition single, depicting a West London industrial scene, is by the album’s bass player Paul Simonon.

L.A.M.B Men’s Footwear

October 23, 2006

lamb1.JPG

Gwen Stefani’s footwear line L.A.M.B. by Royal Elastics, has been making women’s shoes for a while and now it seems they’re moving into men’s sneakers. I personally really like what Royal Elastics is headed in terms of design for some of their shoes. Here’s two that particularly caught my attention, the Katella Woven and Miehana. From the photos, the materials used in both shoes look pretty good. For the rest of the shoes and more pics check out their website L.A.M.B. Footwear.
