Complex shows us the Vans crossover with the 3 shops DQM, HUF, and Kicks/Hi. A couple of months ago, these were floating around the net and were rumored to not be released but I guess they’re out according to Complex. From the pic, the chukka boot collaborations with the 3 stores look really good. At $95, they won’t break your bank as well, so pick ’em up if you have the chance.

Thompson AF1

Check out these babies from the “Original Six: Mychal Thompson” Air Force 1 XXV series. The different combinations of material, colour, and unique print make this pair of Air Force 1 one of the best ever produced by Nike. From the looks of the pictures, it looks like Nike used the same material as they did for the Hemp Dunks released a few years back. This pair of AF1 is a must have for all you sneakers collectors out there who are looking for something unique and different. For more pictures, head over to nikeskateboarding.org.

M-ONE-11, Toronto

December 15, 2006

mone11_speakeasy.jpg

M-ONE-11‘s lone store outside Australia and New Zealand is located in Toronto’s hip Queen Street West district. The store is definitely one of my favorite stores to shop in the city. The store offers clothing labels you wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else in the area.

Brands such as Australian-based Mooks streetwear, FEIT sneakers as well as the surfboard company, INSIGHT. In addition to providing Australian-based brands, the store offers a great clothing line under their own label which is a leading Australian streetwear company. M-ONE-11’s mens and womens apparel features a quality collection of tees, jackets, shirts and other accessories such as hats and bags. The style of its clothing line is skater streetwear meets modern Bohemian with a Pacific influence.

M-ONE-11’s retail space is also used as an exhibition/gallery space on occasion. M-ONE-11 is very involved in Toronto’s art community and does a great job promoting local talent and artists. They are currently hosting an art auction featuring local artists benefiting Sketch, an organization creating opportunities for street involved and homeless people ages 15-29. If you’re in the neighbourhood next Thursday, M-ONE-11 is hosting an Auction Closing Party at 7pm. Thursday December 21st, 2006 7PM-9PM (Auction closes at 9pm) Definitely check this store out if you happen to be in downtown Toronto area.

Nike Air Assault Retros

December 3, 2006

nikeairassault.jpg

I’ve always been a fan of retro shoes, especially bulky Nikes from the 80’s and 90’s (the glory years as I call it). So it’s no surprise these caught my eye when I came across it at Kix and the City. The Air Assault, an original basketball classic from back in the day will be retro’ed with the original safari print as well as a visable air pocket in the midsole that the original did not have. The release is slated for 2007, so look out for these if you’re a sneaker freak and big on 80’s/90’s nostalgia like me.

adi-england.jpg
Just came across this from Sneakers BR via Hypebeast. The England inspired patented leather and pinstripe material of the ZX500 sneaker. I thought the previous releases were really hot already, but this definately tops it. Being a huge fan of pinstripes, I hope they will release a couple of clothing items for this theme as well.

Over at The Cool Hunter, they have an interesting post on shoe stores around the world that have unique displays and merchandising techniques. Their readers send in pictures with some of the coolest setups and they will later feature the store in magazine print form. Check out their post with more of the few eye-catching displays here.

Evil Monito
eind

After sponsoring the K-Spray tour for the past two years, K-Swiss marks its commitment to the stencil art community by introducing the Logan Hicks-designed shoe. This marks a joint venture between Logan Hicks, K-Swiss, Evil Monito, and Blackbooks Stencils.

The shoe features faux patent croc leather, a translucent red mid-sole, and a premium pigskin interior. The fabric portion of the shoe uses one of Logan’s signature designs, which is also found throughout the packaging. The shoeboxes are hand-crafted through a multi-step process: using the same signature design in the shoe, the stencil on the box is cut by laser and then the pattern is applied by hand to the interior and exterior of the box. This unique approach ensures that no two boxes are exactly alike because of the variations that occur when stenciling. The box is then signed and numbered to guarantee the exclusivity of the edition.

The shoes are limited to 216 pairs and comes with an embroidered felt shoe bag and matching Logan Hicks shirt. These babies are available online exclusively through the Evil Monito Store. Retail cost of the shoe is $150 which includes shipping within US. An additional 400 pairs of shoes are available through select retail outlets in Asia, Australia, and the US.

Timberland’s 10061.COM

November 21, 2006

10061timberland_speakeasy.jpg

The Timberland Company recently announced the launch of 10061.com, a web site that celebrates the intersection of art and community. While 10061.com focuses on an online creative collaboration with designers, artists and consumers to use the Timberland boot as a canvas, the most interesting aspect of the site is the “The Boroughs Project”.

Under the creative direction of Jeff Ng aka Jeff Staple (as you might know from his work and blog), 10061.com features “The Boroughs Project” which brings together various designers/artists representing the five boroughs of New York City to each design a limited signature Timberland boot (which will be available for purchase, just in case you’re wondering). Artists include Jeff Staple himself, producer The RZA, painter Chris Mendoza, photographer Atsuko Tanaka and new media artist David “SKWERM” Ellis, created their own inpretation of the Timberland boot and incorporate their ideas/inspirations from the neighbourhoods of New York City.

Although I am not a huge fan of the Timberland brand or the boots created by the artists (i.e. The RZA’s glow- in-the-dark Tims), it is a very impressive campaign for Timberland in attempts to maintain its position in urban culture. The site alone is great to just explore. The ‘User Gallery’ features plenty of great artwork submitted by various people and as long as you’re at the site, my advice is to check out all the artists’ films in the ‘Art and Community’ section. It is essential. The short videos are well produced and entertaining. Definitely worth taking a look.

Reset, Toronto

November 15, 2006

resetstore_speakeasy.jpg

Situated on Toronto’s hip and trendy Queen Street West, Reset has always been one of my favorite stores to check out whenever I take a stroll around the city. Although the store is far west from the much popular and commercial area of Queen St. (between University and Spadina, more particularly the district where Muchmusic headquarters and all the other commercial shit is located), Reset is (like many trendy stores have) located towards the Trinity Bellwoods Park area (between Bathurst and Dufferin). Currently, the area has rejuvenating due to the high volume of artists and designers residing in the area. The area has converted from a run down, bare district to a very stylish and cool neighbourhood which is home to various art galleries as well as unique and distinctive shops.

Zeeshan and Osman Chaudhary set up their Queen West store about two years ago and the store has become one of the best establishments for high end street fashion in Toronto. Reset offers an exclusive collection of the best in local and international street brands and currently offers merchandise from Obey, Creative Recreation, Freshjive, Boxfresh and Criminal. I find that these brands are difficult to find in the city already and to have them available in one place just makes it so much easier for the avid shopper. What I like about Reset is the fact they don’t stick to the same brands all the time as they change their collection ever so often. The store also offers a selection of collectors’ toys, books and magazines. What differentiates Reset from other stores is they are committed to the “fusion of aggressive visual culture” and art appreciation. Reset has often hosted art events in their shop and this past month have presented guests such as acclaimed photographer Jon Naar.

If you happen to be in Toronto, definitely take some time and check out Reset on Queen Street West.

dunkxchange

November 11, 2006

dunkxchange.jpg

Think of it as the new urban swap meet. Instead of attempting to sell your vintage antique china, replace that with the rariest shoes you have in your personal sneaker collection.  What started as a small gathering of people trying to buy, sell or trade some of their own kicks at Club Iziza, Oakland in October 2005, turned into a multi city tour where true sneakerheads would gather.  With much success in the Bay Area and New York, dunkxchange will be holding events all throughout 2006 and most of 2007.

dunkxchange will be in Orange County, California next week  on November 18th so if you’re in the Anaheim area, here is a chance for all you sneaker collectors to buy, sell, or trade some of your newest, hottest and rariest kicks live this week at the House of Blues. If you can’t make next Saturday, look for dunkxchange in 2007 as they plan to hit Miami, Hawaii, Vegas and Chicago.

Date: Saturday November 18th
Time: 12 – 4PM
Location: “House of Blues” 1530 S. Disneyland Dr.
City: Anaheim, California, US

A while ago, Adidas Originals introduced a new limited series called, “Materials of the world“. This collection includes Stan Smith Mid x Japan, ZX500 x Turkey, Attitude Hi x Indonesia, Dragon W x China, and Gazelle W x Mexico. The thing that makes this collection so special is that, the design and the materials used for these shoes are based on the unique culture of each country. I’m really feeling the series as it really brings out the uniqueness of every country through the materials used. Stay tuned for more to come from this series.

creativerec.jpg
Creative Recreation is definately one of my favourite brands for footwear. The stuff they put out in recent years has been great, as they use clean, simple designs and colours for many of their footwear. This pair of Cesario that I came across at The Hundreds is a bit more lavish but nonetheless conforms to my liking. They have teamed up with a website called MUSINSA, a Korean online street-culture mag and come up with this shoe using numerous materials. Check out more info and pics at The Hundreds blog.

Adidas SB

November 6, 2006

adi-sb.jpg
With the success that Nike is experiencing with their skateboarding line, it seems as though Adidas is following suit and coming up with their own SB line as well. There’s not much info yet but stay tuned, because there’s lots more sure to come as Kix-files shows us a teaser of a couple of samples of their upcoming models that will release in 2007.
